Collaboration and socialisation is at the forefront of DBM Vircon’s workplace ethos. Amicus was engaged under a design, construct and technology contract to purpose-build an office suitable for a 5-year future staff growth in a hybrid working environment.
The build required merging two existing speculative suites to form one highly functioning workspace. The goal, to create an ideal work environment for their dynamic staff.
The open plan layout and organic flow through the office was integral to defining cross team collaboration. Touch down points, collab booths and project lounges allow more flexibility for informal meetings and reduces the distance between teams. Sit to stand desks with integrated custom technology provides versatility for staff previously operating on fixed desk PC towers.
DBM Vircon required an office that fostered a level of socialisation shaped by daily table tennis competitions. This shared activity creates a hub in the breakout space where staff gather to participate or observe, thus it was critical to create a lively and exciting feeling. The games area features amphitheatre style seating also utilised for town hall meetings and broader team gatherings. The design of the kitchen and breakout truly focused on emphasising this recreational element as a key driver for staff retention and attracting new talent.
DBM worked with the Amicus design team to feature a custom-made reception desk and steel joinery piece. Showcasing physical and graphic elements from their previous fit-out gave DBM a sense of ownership of the space and pride for their work. Reference to their corporate colour palette can be seen through tonal variations of green with high end industrial finishes including perforated metal mesh ceiling tiles in the breakout and kitchen area.
The coherence between design and technology creates an energetic setting, fostering connection between staff operating in a hybrid workplace.
The look and feel of the new office space is viewed as an extension of their values and a shift to new ways of working.
